In order for UNICEF-owned websites to work properly, and so that we can further enhance your user experience, websites must store a small data file (a cookie) on your computer. Over 90% of all websites use cookies, and by using these websites, you accept cookies. If you disable cookies on your web browser, you can still browse pages, but some functionalities will not be available to you.

What are cookies?

Cookies are data files placed on your computer by the website that you visit. Cookies usually store your website settings, such as the preferred language or an address. When you return to the same website, your internet browser sends back the cookies that belong to this website. This enables the website to show information tailored to your needs.

Cookies may contain a variety of information, including personal data (such as your name or email address). Still, this information can only be stored if you enable it – websites do not have access to information you did not give them, and they do not have access to other files on your computer. Storing and sending cookies is not visible to you, but you can change your internet browser’s settings to allow you to choose whether to accept or block cookies, to delete installed cookies immediately after closing the browser, etc.

How to disable cookies?

You decide whether to allow cookies to be stored on your computer. You can control and configure cookie settings on your web browser. For more information on cookie settings, select the web browser you are using:
• Chrome
• Firefox
• Internet Explorer 9
• Internet Explorer 7 and 8
• Opera
• Safari
If you disable cookies, you can still browse the UNICEF website.

What are first-party cookies?

First-party cookies are created by the web pages you view. They include session cookies and permanent cookies. Web pages use these cookies to store data they will use again the next time you visit them.

What are session cookies?

Temporary cookies or session cookies are removed from your computer after closing the web browser. They are used by websites to store temporary data, such as the items you have selected and put in your shopping cart.

What are permanent cookies?

Permanent cookies remain on your computer after you close the web browser. Websites use these cookies to store data, such as your login name and password, so you do not have to re-enter them each time you visit a website. Permanent cookies are stored on your computer for days, months, or even years.

What are third-party cookies?

Third-party cookies come from other websites. These cookies track the user’s interaction with a website; these (anonymous) data may be used to improve a website or for marketing purposes.

Does the UNICEF website use cookies and why?

Websites owned by UNICEF (unicef.org/croatia, cuvari.unicef.hr, kuvertapunaljubavi.unicef.hr, donatori.unicef.hr, mlijecnastaza.hr) use first-party cookies (both session and permanent cookies) and third-party cookies.

We use them to improve our understanding of users’ behaviour and to enhance the website accordingly, and also to offer relevant content to our users, such as news about our programmes and appeals to help the most vulnerable children, and also for information and marketing purposes. While doing so, we have no insight into the personal data of individual website users.
